Welcome back to returning families and welcome to new families. I am excited to have children back into the library exploring the shelves and discovering the many wonderful books we have for them.
The Junior, Middle and Senior Communities will start their borrowing this Friday. The Beginning Community will have their first borrowing session this Monday. It would be greatly appreciated if you could ensure that the children have something to keep the books clean and protected from food and liquids.
Premier’s Reading Challenge has also begun. Each child in JLC, MLC and SLC will have their own form to record the books they have read. I will be visiting each classroom to talk to the children about what books they will need to choose from etc. More information can be found via clicking on this link….
There is an opportunity for you to purchase your own books or gifts for others from the comfort of your own home. The children will receive a brochure twice a term from the Scholastic Book Club. There is a facility that enables you to purchase online or you can pay by cash in an envelope with your order at the school. The books are delivered directly to the school for distribution with a percentage of sales given back to the school to purchase additional books for the library. More about Scholastic can be found by clicking on this link…
I will be giving you more information about various events throughout the year.
Mrs Ann Grivell
Good morning everyone,
Due to circumstances out of our control there were delays with the delivery of the items in Issue #7. Hopefully everyone had received your items yesterday.
Please email me at agrivell@stmichaels.sa.edu.au if you have not received your items.
Kind Regards,
Ann Grivell
Thank you to the many generous ‘Grandparents and Special Friends’ that kindly purchased and donated some new books for our library. We look forward to reading them.
SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB ISSUE#8 OUT NOW
This is the final opportunity to purchase from the club for this year. It’s a great opportunity to start or finish that Christmas shopping. Due date for final orders is MONDAY THE 25TH OF NOVEMBER 9AM. (Please note the change of day from Thursday to Monday)
The annual Grandparents and Special Friend’s Day book stall is back. Whilst you visit your special grandchild/child this Friday you may also like to purchase and donate a quality book from the Pegi Williams book stall for our library. Each donated book will contain a label with the name of the donator as a simple way to express our gratitude.
Sometime in the next few weeks all children who completed the Premier’s Reading Challenge will receive either a certificate or medal. I would like to thank the children, teachers and parents for your continued participation and support of this fabulous event.
The children will be having their final ‘Browse n Borrow’ session in Week 5 with all books needing to be returned in week 6. This will enable us to embark on our annual stock-take of resources. Junior Learning Communities will need to return all Take Home Texts in week 7.
I will be posting reminders closer to crucial dates as the end of the year can become quite busy with many events.
We had a wonderful start to Book Week with a dress up parade in Bukatila. It was fabulous to see a huge variety in characters chosen either from a book or the theme. Each class has or will come and do an activity with me in the library based around the theme.
There is a competition running for the students to guess the title of the book character I dressed up as on Monday. We have the book in our library. The BLC teachers have read the story to their students and they have had an opportunity to tell me their guess. Entries close Wednesday afternoon with 3 winners to be announced at school on Thursday.
Premiers Reading Challenge is coming to a close on the 6th of September so the children will need to have completed their forms and handed them into me by then.
SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB ISSUE #6 WILL BE COMING HOME THURSDAY.
I would like to extend a huge thank you to the school community for your support in another successful Book Fair. As a community you purchased over $4,000 worth of books enabling us to purchase many new books for the library. We feel very blessed by your generosity.
Next Monday is the beginning of Book Week and our dress up day. The theme for this year is READING IS MY SECRET POWER. The children can dress as their favorite book character or as something inspired by the theme. There will be a parade on Monday morning in Bukatila around 9am. All are welcome.
There is still an opportunity for you to visit the fair before we finish for this year.
We will be open from 3pm – 4pm this afternoon in our beautifully warm and dry library.
Thank you to all those families that have visited us (some several times), we really appreciate your support!
